As the high school swimming season heads toward its final stretch, athletes across Southern Utah are sharpening their performances in preparation for region and state championships. The upcoming Region 9 meet at Utah Tech University will be a key test, especially after the recent Red Rock Invitational, where larger programs dominated but local teams still made a strong impression. Canyon View’s boys placed third, while Desert Hills’ girls led the local pack with a third-place finish. With several returning standouts, including Canyon View’s Ty Lauer, Sean Cannon, and Soleil Grimshaw, the region remains highly competitive. Cannon, in particular, has emerged as one of the state’s fastest swimmers, posting a leading time in the 200 freestyle.
Individual talent across Region 9 continues to stand out, especially on the girls’ side, where Desert Hills senior Chesney Bonner leads the state in multiple events and enters the postseason as a top contender. Rising swimmers like Snow Canyon’s Ella Fuller and other strong performers from Crimson Cliffs, Hurricane, and Cedar add further depth to the field. On the boys’ side, athletes from Crimson Cliffs, Cedar, and Snow Canyon are also making their mark with competitive times. With region meets set and state championships just weeks away, the focus now shifts to fine-tuning performances, as swimmers aim to peak at the right moment and turn strong seasons into podium finishes.
