In a dramatic rematch of the 2023 5A boys soccer state final, Alta reversed the script and dethroned two-time defending champion Wasatch with a 3-2 victory. The Hawks overcame two deficits, including a late stretch playing with just 10 men, to capture their fourth state title since 2017. Junior Jack McAllister’s stunning 30-yard free kick sealed the win in the closing minutes, sending Alta’s fans into celebration.

The 5A region swimming championships delivered standout performances as teams competed ahead of the state tournament at BYU on Feb. 14-15. Cyprus, Box Elder, Skyline, and Wasatch claimed the girls’ region titles, while Kearns, Box Elder, Olympus, and Wasatch secured the boys’ championships. However, the highlight of the weekend was Highland senior Veronica Black setting a new state record in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:01.06, breaking the previous record by over a second.
