Western Australia (WA) celebrated a standout achievement in touch football at the 2025 School Sport Australia Games (SSAG), as both the boys’ and girls’ teams earned bronze medals in a highly competitive national field. The event, held from October 25 to November 1 in Ballarat, Victoria, brought together more than 1,500 students and officials across multiple sports.

The WA boys’ touch football squad featured Malakai Clinch (La Salle College) and Dehkal Whitfield (Swan View Senior High School), while the girls’ team included Mackenzie Williams (Guildford Grammar) and Rita Wilson (La Salle College). Both teams delivered strong performances throughout the tournament, demonstrating excellent teamwork and consistency to secure third place for Western Australia.

Beyond touch football, WA students also participated across cricket, soccer, netball, swimming and other sports. In cricket, Cooper Chilman from Swan Valley Anglican Community School helped the WA side defeat South Australia in the final, with the team placing third overall. The soccer competition saw competitive efforts from both boys’ and girls’ squads, though each narrowly missed the finals after close losses to Queensland. In netball, WA’s Under-12 teams finished fifth (girls) and sixth (boys), while swimmers Max Borland and Ellie Skinner recorded strong showings in their respective events.

A School Sports Western Australia spokesperson praised the athletes’ spirit and commitment, saying:

“Each team showcased outstanding teamwork, skills, and passion.
It has been a challenging yet rewarding experience, and we are incredibly proud of all the competitors.
Listening, learning, growing, laughing — it’s all part of the interstate team experience.”
