Despite facing a series of challenges this season, the Summit High School girls' rugby team triumphed to claim their 17th-consecutive state title, continuing their dominance in the sport. The season was marred by injuries to key players, including junior Teagan Barth and senior Olivia Lyman, which forced the team to adapt and build stronger chemistry. The Summit squad, led by head coach Karl Barth, showcased resilience and determination, overcoming obstacles to maintain their winning streak.
In a thrilling state tournament, the Summit Tigers, playing with a mix of seasoned veterans and emerging talent, secured a commanding 26-5 victory in the championship match against Monarch High School. Players like Delilah Staberg and Hailey Russer played pivotal roles in the final, with Staberg contributing two tries and Russer scoring a pair as well. Summit’s ability to come together as a team despite the setbacks exemplified their strength and cohesion, ensuring their continued success in girls' rugby.
