The last time a school from county Leitrim had won the All Ireland post-primary Gaelic Football final was in 2000 when Ballinamore were victorious. However, a strong performance from a highly talented St Clare's Comprehensive Manorhamilton team saw them bring the trophy back to a county that waited a quarter of a century to taste success again.

Featuring numerous Leitrim U20 players, St Clare's clearly had ability, but the most important factor to their success was the team's cohesion, workrate and elite mentality which saw them never give up in their run to the final. Their faultless effort levels saw them defeat the highly rated Gortner Abbey in the Connacht final, before an impressive dominant victory over Leinster champions Gaelcholáiste Reachrann, Donaghmede in the All Ireland semi-final.

Ultimately, they needed their top mentality to defeat Ennistymon CS in the final which went to extra-time but their hard work paid off and saw the Leitrim school come out on top.
