Riverview proved once again that timing matters, pulling away late to claim its third consecutive Downriver Classic boys swimming and diving championship. In a tightly contested meet at Southgate Anderson, the Pirates edged rival Trenton, 302-266, continuing a dominant run dating back to 2024. The two teams traded the lead multiple times early on, but Riverview seized control during the 200-yard freestyle relay and never looked back. Strong finishes in the closing events helped the Pirates widen the gap and seal the victory, reinforcing their status as the team to beat in the competition.
Senior standouts Ewan Todd and Nathan Johnson led the charge, each winning two individual events while also contributing to relay success. Todd claimed victories in the 200 individual medley and 100 breaststroke, while Johnson topped the field in both the 50 and 100 freestyle races. Riverview also captured key relay wins, highlighting their depth and teamwork. Trenton delivered a solid performance, led by standout swimmer Zach Schoen, who won two individual events and helped his team secure the 400 freestyle relay. Despite strong efforts from several schools, Riverview’s consistency and late surge ultimately made the difference, extending their championship streak in convincing fashion.
