Methodist Girls' School (MGS) successfully defended its B Division netball title at the National School Games (NSG) on April 24, securing a commanding 32-14 victory over CHIJ Secondary (Toa Payoh). MGS coach Joanne Ong employed a unique "rojak" approach to training, where players rotated through various positions to enhance their versatility. This strategy proved crucial in the final, as goal shooter Cayla Ho and goal attack Sarah Lim switched roles to compensate for Cayla's knee injury. Despite the change, the dynamic duo delivered impressive performances, with Sarah adapting to goal attack for the first time in a full NSG match.
The game saw MGS take an early lead with quick passes and strong shooting, finishing the first quarter at 12-4 and extending their advantage by halftime. In the final period, MGS’s defense stifled CHIJ, holding them to just one goal in the last quarter. Coach Ong’s focus on adaptability and resilience paid off, as MGS demonstrated seamless teamwork and tactical flexibility. Although CHIJ struggled with injuries and early nerves, their captain, Kaaviya Kabil Dhew, acknowledged MGS's superior pressure and performance. The win highlighted MGS’s depth and mental toughness, as the team celebrated with loud cheers from supporters.
