The No. 1-ranked Buford Wolves capped an undefeated season with a dramatic 28-21 victory over the No. 2 Carrollton Trojans in the GHSA Class 6A championship at Mercedes-Benz Stadium on Tuesday. The game featured a defensive struggle early, with both teams forcing turnovers and keeping scoring low. Buford senior running back Tyriq Green emerged as the hero, rushing for 184 yards and two touchdowns, including a game-winning 82-yard sprint in the fourth quarter that secured the Wolves’ 15th state title. Buford’s defense played a pivotal role, generating four turnovers, while Deion Miller also contributed with a goal-line fumble recovery touchdown.
Carrollton battled back fiercely, with standout defensive lineman Zykie Helton recording three sacks and linebacker Jahmir Harris scoring on a fumble return to tie the game late in the fourth quarter. Quarterback Dayton Raiola and the Wolves relied on timely plays, including deep passes and opportunistic turnovers, to maintain the edge. Carrollton’s Cam Wood led the Trojan offense with 98 rushing yards and a touchdown, but Buford’s balanced attack and resilient defense ultimately proved decisive. The win solidifies Buford’s position among the nation’s elite high school football programs, with the Wolves finishing a perfect 15-0 and potentially claiming national recognition.
