Brookline Boys Volleyball Captures First State Title in Over 30 Years with Gritty Comeback

Brookline High School’s boys volleyball team ended a 33-year title drought by winning the Division 1 state championship in a thrilling four-set match over Needham at Xaverian Brothers High School. Led by senior outside hitter Kristaps Vaivars’ 27 kills and a deep supporting cast, the Warriors overcame a first-set loss to win 20-25, 27-25, 25-22, 25-15, securing their first state crown since 1992.

Led by senior outside hitter Kristaps Vaivars’ 27 kills and a deep supporting cast, the Warriors overcame a first-set loss to win 20-25, 27-25, 25-22, 25-15, securing their first state crown since 1992.

The comeback was fueled by clutch performances from junior Amir Tomer, setter Alec Smagula, and middle Liam Raybould, as Brookline rallied from a second-set deficit and built unstoppable momentum. In her debut season, head coach Lexi De la Cruz guided the Warriors to a historic win that electrified the Brookline community, packed the stands, and finally brought the long-awaited banner home.
