The CAF African Schools Football Championship | COSAFA Qualifier South Africa 2025 kicked off with an exciting first day at the Idas Valley Sports Complex in Stellenbosch, featuring strong performances across both the Boys and Girls divisions.
In the Boys competition, Zimbabwe dominated Group A with two wins, setting up a decisive clash with hosts South Africa, who sit close behind with four points. Zambia made a winning start in Group B, while Eswatini responded with a convincing win of their own. In Group C, Malawi and Botswana each claimed victories, eliminating Lesotho from contention.
The Girls competition also produced high-quality football. Zimbabwe lead the group on goal difference, earning big wins over Mozambique and Namibia. South Africa secured two victories as well and will meet Zimbabwe on Saturday to determine the top position. In the other groups, Zambia, Eswatini, Malawi, and Lesotho each recorded emphatic results.
South Africa have claimed both the Boys and Girls titles in the last three editions, but the opening day showed that competition is tightening and their dominance will be tested this year.
