South Wilts Grammar School’s Senior Girls cross country team produced an outstanding performance to secure third place at the National Finals of the English Schools Athletics Association (ESAA) Cross Country Schools Cup, confirming their status among the top school teams in England.
The National Finals took place in Rugby on Saturday 6 December, bringing together the strongest school teams from across the country. Competing on a demanding and muddy course, the SWGS Senior Girls demonstrated exceptional determination, resilience, and teamwork to finish 3rd out of 27 schools, earning a well-deserved bronze medal at national level.
Their achievement reflects consistent commitment throughout the season and the ability to perform under pressure on one of the toughest stages in school athletics. The result places the team firmly among England’s elite school cross-country programmes.
SWGS was also represented by its Inter Girls team, who delivered a strong performance to finish 11th out of 28 schoolsin their category, further underlining the depth and strength of cross-country running at the school.
Jo Hole, Joint Head of PE at SWGS, praised the athletes’ efforts, saying:
“This is an outstanding accomplishment, and we could not be prouder of their hard work and resilience. Both teams have demonstrated remarkable commitment throughout the season. We extend our sincere thanks to their coach, Jeff Butt, for his dedication, expertise and unwavering support."
