St Kenneth’s Primary School from East Kilbride celebrated an outstanding achievement this month as their Primary 6 boys’ team captured the Scottish Primary Schools’ Road Race Championships title in Dunfermline on October 1.
Twenty pupils represented the East Kilbride school at Pittencrieff Park, competing in one-mile races across different age categories.
The P6 boys’ team, Kyle Hartley, Ethan Hossack, Murray Crawford, Ollie Ramage, and Jacob McGee, delivered a superb performance to win the overall team title and gold medals, finishing ahead of schools from across Scotland.
Individually, Kyle Hartley produced a remarkable run to win the P6 boys’ race, coming first among 107 runners.
Other strong team performances saw the P7 boys finish fifth, P7 girls seventh, and P6 girls ninth.
Speaking after his victory, Kyle said:
“Before the race, I had no idea I would come first out of 107 runners. It felt incredible, and my teammates were amazing too.”
Coach Richard Wyatt praised the full squad:
“Kyle and his teammates were bold, brave and determined. The entire group of 20 runners showed great enthusiasm and a wonderful competitive spirit.”
Head teacher Dave Adams added:
“I could not be more proud of our Primary 6 boys. Their determination, teamwork and spirit were inspiring, and they represented St Kenneth’s beautifully. A special congratulations to Kyle on his outstanding individual win.”
