24 hours prior to Sunday’s Super Bowl Championships, High School cheerleaders from across the nation were competing in their own Championship held at ESPN Wide World of Sports in Orlando, Florida.
Oak Ridge High School competed in the UCA National High School Cheerleading Championships Division 1 Medium Varsity category against 50 teams from across the nation in order to secure the title.
A statement by the teams coaches, James Blunk and Kat Martin read:
“We are humbled to be in this division and compete against so many amazing teams. This division has some unreal talent and phenomenal programs. We are so proud of every one of these athletes.”
The team returned to their home in El Dorado Hills, California on Monday with their championship trophy and a whole lot of excitement and pride to go with it.
In a further statement from the team, thanks were given to those that supported them throughout the year:
“We are so grateful for all the family, friends and parents who have supported us along the way. The amount of people who care about these kids and this program is amazing. We could not have done this without you.”
