Millstreet Community School Claim Runner-Up Spot at World Schools Golf Championship

On October 2, Millstreet Community School from Ireland achieved an outstanding result by finishing second place at the World Schools Golf Championship held in Scotland.

The event brought together more than 100 student golfers from 23 schools across 17 countries, who competed over three days on some of Scotland’s most iconic golf courses, including Royal Musselburgh, The Musselburgh Golf Club, and the world-renowned Fairmont St Andrews.

Team scores were determined by combining the three highest Stableford scores from each team in every round. Millstreet recorded a total of 335 points to secure the runner-up position, while Brighton College Al Ain from Abu Dhabi claimed the championship title with 349 points.

The Millstreet team included Labhrás O'Dwyer, Ronan Corcoran, Danny O'Riordan, Alan McAuliffe, Cian O'Connor, Mark Hickey, Oisín McCarthy, and Rory McCarthy.

Principal Pól Ó Síodhcháin expressed his pride in the team’s achievement, saying:

“We are very proud to have finished runners-up again this year, following our second-place finish last year as well. The students’ dedication, sportsmanship, and excellence have brought great honour to our school, their families, and the wider community.”

To celebrate the achievement, the school hosted a special breakfast for the returning team and organised a Guard of Honour formed by all students. At Cork Airport, the team received a warm welcome home, with their photo displayed on the big screen in the arrivals hall as part of the celebrations.
