GS Rowers delivered an impressive performance at the British Rowing Indoor Championships, recording multiple national Top 10 finishes against strong competition from leading schools and rowing clubs across the country.
Represented by a squad of 25 athletes, the team demonstrated depth, consistency, and competitive strength across all age groups. The Championships produced four national Top 10 results, highlighting the quality of GS rowing at a national level.
In Year Ten, Elsa Somer achieved an outstanding fourth-place finish in the 5-minute race, narrowly missing out on a national medal by just one metre. In the premier 2000m event, Sixth Form rower Freddie Fielding delivered a powerful performance to secure sixth place nationally. Strong results also came from the younger age groups, with Orla Roundell finishing eighth in the Year Nine 4-minute race, while Year Ten’s Xanthe Carrington-Abrahamearned another Top 10 national ranking in the 5-minute category.
Beyond the headline results, strong performances were evident throughout the squad. In the Sixth Form, Freddie’s top-six finish was supported by consistent races from Mati Stendall and Oliver Maggs, while Lottie Richardson led the Senior Girls in the demanding 2000m event. The Year Eleven girls impressed in a challenging six-minute endurance race, where Amelia Gutteridge and Emily Pipe crossed the line within seconds of each other in a highly competitive field.
Momentum continued in the Year Ten squads, with Simon Herbert and Jack Doy producing promising results, while the girls’ squad contributed two of the School’s national Top 10 finishes. In Year Nine, emerging talent was clear as Zachary Noakes secured 12th place in the boys’ division, complementing Orla Roundell’s Top 10 achievement.
Overall, the Championships showcased not only national-level results but also the athletes’ discipline, resilience, and team spirit. The GS Rowers’ multiple Top 10 finishes stand as a strong reflection of the hard work invested in training and the continued development of rowing excellence across the programme.
