In a thrilling finale to his high school wrestling career, Mexico High School senior Grant Van Horn captured the State Championship at Mizzou Arena on Thursday, February 28, 2025.
Van Horn faced a formidable opponent, a state champion returnee. The championship came out victorious and he claimed his rightful spot among the school’s top athletes. With this win, he tied the school record for career wins at 178 alongside other top performer, Teresse Aarons.
Van Horn’s performance was not the only bright spot for the Mexico Bulldogs. Carlos Juarez Ramirez was also a standout, finishing as a state runner-up in his weight class. Together, the Mexico boys’ squad finished 11th as a team.
In the girls’ competition, Alexus Johns made her presence known by finishing 5th in the state, making Mexico High’s wrestling team have a tournament to remember.
The championship tournament that was held over two days accommodated the state's top high school wrestlers, ending with lots of energy and much pride for the Mexico High athletes who competed for them.
