Cardinal Winning Secondary School lifts Jack Zimmer Memorial Trophy

Cardinal Winning Secondary School emerged as champions at a five-a-side football tournament held in Glasgow, organised by Variety Scotland’s Big Days Out Committee. Teams from Cardinal Winning, Parkhill Secondary, and St Oswald’s Secondary School took part in the event, which aimed to provide an inclusive and enjoyable sporting experience for young people with additional support needs (ASN).

After a series of exciting matches, Cardinal Winning Secondary School claimed victory in the final, defeating Parkhill Secondary School 3–2 on penalties to lift the Jack Zimmer Memorial Trophy.

While Cardinal Winning took home the trophy, every participant was recognised, all players received a medal and a water bottle, courtesy of event sponsor Pitstop Nutrition, as a reward for their outstanding performances throughout the day.

Alan Young, PE teacher at Cardinal Winning Secondary, praised his team and the event organisers:

“The kids had brilliant fun and the team played so well. Thanks to Variety Scotland for organising such a fantastic day.”

David McBride, who marked his 40th year as a Variety Scotland volunteer, helped organise the tournament in tribute to the late Jack Zimmer, a long-time supporter of the charity.
He shared:

"It was a great event and Jack would have been so proud of the atmosphere and spirit out on the pitch. Seeing the smiles and the joy of playing together is what Variety is all about."

Event sponsor Neil Winston, CEO of Pitstop Nutrition and grandson of Jack Zimmer, also reflected on the personal meaning behind the tournament:

"Variety Scotland has always meant a great deal to my family, so sponsoring this tournament in my grandfather’s name is very special to us, and we were delighted to be part of such a special day."
